Game 25: Safeco field M’s vs. Blue Jays

Well what can I say?  It seems like it had been awhile since I had been to a M’s game.  During their road trip I was on the verge on just giving up on the season and the team.  The M’s got a bit healthy against the Devil rays and had won three straight coming into the game tonight.  Ryan Franklin gave up five runs in the first inning as every ball was just out of reach for a play except for Well’s home run (he had a second off of Franklin his next time up).  Franklin got tossed after he hit a batter and the score was 7-0.  The M’s did make it a bit interesting and almost came back in the ninth but lost 9-7.  Gaudin pitched really well for the Blue Jays.  Seattle’s record is not 21 – 30.  They are 9.5 games back in the West behind Texas who just took the lead from the Angles.  Seattle is only 8.5 games out of the Wild Card.
There were a few highlights from the game.  Rene Rivera was called up from AA yesterday when they sent Olivo down and got his first major league start and also a few hits.  Wilson Valdez was sent down today and Mike Morse was brought up from AAA.  He did not start but got into the game as a pinch hitter for Boone in the 7th and struck out.  He then got walked in his next at bat.  He did make a good play at short in his major league début.  Ichiro did have his first game in over a week when he got over one hit.
Ichiro update.  Well Sunday’s game was the game Ichiro needed to hit to tie the record for the quickest to 1000 hits but he is still not that close.  After going three for six today he now has 992 career hits in 685 games.  He is now averaging 1.448175 hits per game.  This projects him out to get to 1000 in game 690.5242 which is on the road against the Marlins so it does not look like we will be able to witness history at home.  His average is now .321 for the year.
