Counting Crows/Goo Goo Dolls concert

Last week I went to the Counting Crows/Goo Goo Dolls concert at White River Amphitheatre.  I had a hard time finding anyone to go.  I think everyone was denying the fact that they have a little VH-1 in them and even I can say that in the early 90’s I was listening to something other the the local Seattle grunge music.
While I was eating dinner in the VIP club I was asked if I wanted to do a meet and greet with the members of the Goo Goo Dolls.  I got Johnny Rzeznik (vocals, guitar), Robbie Takac (vocals, bass) and George (drums) to sign my ticket which you can see in one of the attached photos and we got to have our picture taken with the band.  They guys were very polite and seem to not be hassled at all by doing this.

Augustana opened the show and while I did not catch much of their set they sounded good.  I am going to have to check them out again some time.

Between sets Adam Durtiz, the lead singer of Counting Crows, was just walking around out in the crowd.  My friend snapped a photo of him on her camera phone and I hope to have a copy of that photo soon.  I had heard that Adam was a big Cal Bears fan and there he was in a Cal Women’s basketball shirt with a big GO Bears on the back and he actually was talking to some people in Cal hats.

Goo Goo Dolls were great.  The did a good job of balancing their old songs with a new album that just came out which sounds good if you are into that mellow sound.  The old songs came back to me as they sang and I enjoyed their set.  The crowd seem to really get into it.  I would say the crowd was mostly made of up people in their 40s.

The Counting Crows were solid.  They had mixed up their songs a bit which I really think you have to do after you have played them over and over for many years.   They were there to promote a live recording of theirs that just came out from a show a few years ago.  Durtiz promoted the fact that they bring in local charities to help raise money and awareness and I did notice them outside of the amphitheatre.  They also have hooked up with something the Goo Goo Dolls have done for awhile which is to collect food at their shows.  This was the second show on this tour so if you happen to be going to a later show please bring a few canned food items for a good cause.
