On December 2nd I went the Toys for Kids dinner/auction. This is driven by Rick Rizzs and was the 6th annual event. I had never heard anything about this event but I got the hook-up from Kent & Gretchen — thanks! I ended up at a table with ex-MLB player and also event co-founder Dave Henderson along with the Mariners RBI club. I read last week that in the Seattle Times that both Henderson and Dave Valle had been dumped from the M’s broadcast team. Valle was also at the event along with Edgar Martinez. I had never been at the Harbor Club but it has a great view of the Sound and Qwest Field & Safeco Field. The event itself had lots of baseball items as you might expect. There was not a lot of Mariners items but if you really wanted a signed ball from any big player in the league it was most likely there and they also had many signed bats.
Look for this event next year. It was a fun little event. In the live auction I ended up picking up a trip for 10 to Tillicum Village on Blake Island. I am looking forward to the boat ride and the salmon dinner.
Is anyone interested in joining the Mariners RBI club? They have a fair number of events but most are at lunch time at Safeco Field. I did not know about them until about a year ago. I believe they cap their membership each year and you have to be a season ticketholder to join. The fee is like $150 but then for each event you can bring guest so really someone needs to just become a member and then invite the rest of us. Their first event this year is lunch with the GM Bavasi on 1/26. I will be at Safeco the day before for the Hutch Awards so I am not sure if I can really take another lunch+ off to head to the westside.
