U2 w/Kings of Leon — Monday night

Monday night it was back in the Key Arena for another night of U2.  This night I was on the floor.  I was kind of bummed because you cannot see the lights on the ellipse from the floor.  Kings of Leon opened again and looked a lot loser than the were on Sunday.   They were jumping around the stage more and just generally rocking.  On their last song who came out on stage but Eddie Vedder!  He sang every other verse of the song while he banged away on the tambourines.  I had seen his little tambourine act before as he basically hits them so hard that they fall apart in his hands.  I swear one of the cymbals flew off and hit one of the guitar players in the head.  He went through four tambourines in the song tossing three out to lucky fans in the crowd.  The KoL guys were so great calling him Mr. Eddie Vedder.
U2 came out with their second of their alternating sets.  This set starts out on the main stage and I was a bit disappointed in this because we were close to where they would hang out on the top of the ellipse.  We (my roommate and also my brother) were not lucky enough to get inside the ellipse but a friend from college did and I was so happy for him because he wife is so short that there would have been little chance for her to see from where we were despite the fact that we were so close.  Bono pulled a young boy out of the crowd for “Sometimes you can’t make it on your own” and he almost looked like he had tears in his eyes as he song the song (which it was cool that the boy was totally singing along word for word).  The night before he had dedicated the song to his father.  The big thing that was different was that Adam spend more time wondering around the ellipse than he did the night before leaving the Edge on the main stage.  Bono even made a comment on how he had not done his little dueling dance with Adam and how it was fun for him.  I guess the other big thing if you compare set lists to earlier tour stops was that they ended the set with Vertigo playing it a second time.  Bono had used the same line about encore being based off of an Italian word.  They also played for about 10 minutes longer on Monday night.  There was less talking and plugging for the One.org which is the campaign to end hunger.  Speaking of One.org on the way out my roommate ran into one of his Microsoft co-workers who was hanging out next to the sound board with a special pass.  It turns out that a couple guys from Microsoft had volunteered to redesign the One.org website so look for a change in a next week or so.  I also saw Stone Gossard on the same area.  I give him a what’s up and asked about when they were going to play he said they were going to do Canada in September and low and behold when I got home that night there was email from the fan club about their Canadian tour.  After the fact I am bummed that I sold my tickets to the two U2 shows in Vancouver, BC later in the week.   The band was filming their next video!  Oh well.  I will not be in their video but I do have tickets to the show in Portland, OR in December.  I cannot wait!

Update: I added a photo album of photos we took with my brothers 1st generation camera phone.  Sorry they are so bad.
