Tuesday night found me back at Safeco Field to watch the Phillies take on the home town Mariners in a little Interleague play. While the M’s won yesterday they had gone an aweful 2-4 on their road trip. Tonight however they win again with Sele getting the win going six innings in the 5-1 victory. There were a few home runs for the M’s, Mike Morse who got his first RBI last night got two more RBI when he hit his first major league home run in the eight (he ended up 3-3 with a walk and has a batting average of .395 — I wonder just how much rookie of the year talk he will start to get — I guess it has only been 13 games so far for him and he has already made three errors). Randy Winn had a home run in the third. It was Jeremy Reed’s 23rd birthday and he went 0-2 with a walk, and RBI, and a strike out. Mike Holmgren, the coach of the Seattle Seahawks, was in the crowd and it was also his birthday today.
The M’s are now 28-35 and eight games back of the Angles in the AL West. In the Wild card hunt they are 9 games behind Minnesota. The are 14 games out of having the best record in the AL because the White Sox are playing insanely well this year.
Ichiro update. So yesterday Ichiro got his 1000th hit so I will be stopping the updates. He became the third fastest player to get to 1000 hits in the major leagues. He ended up doing it in 696 games that he played in. Chuck Klein did it in 683 and Lloyd Waner in 686. I should also mention that Ichiro started off his quest for 2000 hits in the major league with a home run in the bottom of the first, his forth home run this year. Congrats to Ichiro!
